This is a selection of some of the best resources on the internet on Antarctica and Penguins along with some of my favorite sites:

Antarctica

My introduction to the Antarctic was on a private expedition to Commonwealth Bay to attempt to restore the hut built by Australia's most famous Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.

Today there is another team of people working in the Antarctic on the same project. They are spending the summer of 97/98 at Cape Dennsion working on the hut's restoration http://www.mawsons-huts.com.au/

For Americans interested in Polar research, history and science a great stating point is the Byrd Polar Research Center. The most famous international repository of polar material is The Scott Polar Research Institute located in Cambridge England.

Virtual Antarctica - The first Terraquest adventure. This site is packed full with excellent information about Anarctica from its environment to travel issues. I also happened to be the producer of the site.

No one who goes to the Antarctica can escape the seductive appeal of penguins. There are numerous websites to cater to those who are so smitten. A great example of a very personal penguin site is that of the Barham's: Pete & Barb's Penguin Pages.

Penguin Collectables

For many even after you have seen the real thing there is a fascination with penguin likeness There are many who also fill their houses and lives with penguins crafted into all manner of clothing and household wears.

The best starting point for such a collection is: Next Stop South Pole (mail order address PO box 375, New York, NY, 10272, USA). The International Antarctic Centre in New Zealand is another .
