Floating Digital Workshops in partnership with Explorer’s
Corner
JUNE 2-14 2005
Extreme Digital Photography author and expert photographer, Jonathan
Chester, invites you to join him for an 11 day floating digital photography
workshop and shoot to the Western Spitzbergen Archipelago 400 nautical
miles East of the northern Greenland coast. Our small group of photographers
will have the opportunity each day to capture images of the rugged
mountains, sweeping tundra, ice caps and glaciers, of this true “High
Arctic” archipelago, only 600 miles from the North Pole. This
is one of the “spots” on the map that is hard to get to,
seen by only a few, is beautiful and pristine and can offer no-place-like-it-on-earth
for photography. Experience seabirds thronging the cliffs and shores,
and enjoy the thrilling antics of whales and dolphins at sea, while
seals and walruses haul out on the rocks and ice floes. Enjoy the thrill
of sighting reindeer, Arctic fox and the amazing polar bear in the wild.
Workshop Sessions in the evenings and at other selected times will be
set aside to give time to download and edit our day’s shoot. Then
we will have a video projection critique session of the best of our
day’s work. This routine will be combined with formal and
informal sessions on digital camera operation, shooting techniques,
workflow, the digital darkroom, photoshop, shooting raw, archiving and
output options from making prints with an Epson photo printer to learning
to make keynote presentations .

Corner or email me Jonathan

Download a brochure about the adventure here
. Other expeditions to Alaska, the Galapagos and Australia
are on the drawing board for the future however.
If you do have questions regarding my guiding experience, or trips that
I have lead in the past, please feel free to contact me.
Two books that I highly recommend if you are planning to go on a trip
to either polar region are:
Lonely Planet Antarctica: A Survival Kit - by Jeff
Rubin. From the makers of the famed guidebook series. As the publishers
note, "Since the usual information found in guidebooks, such as listings
of the best restaurants and hotels doesn't apply for Antarctica, this
unique guide is filled instead with an accessible collection of Antarctic
information that will interest armchair travelers as well as actual
visitors."
Antarctica: A Guide to the Wildlife - by Tony Soper
and Dalfia Scott. An indispensable guide on the denizens of this polar
region.
